Abstract

Rural development has emerged as a critical area of policy intervention in developing and developed economies due to persistent socio-economic disparities between urban and rural regions. Government policies play a significant role in shaping rural transformation through initiatives focused on employment generation, infrastructure development, education, healthcare, and social welfare. At the same time, social work contributes as a supportive mechanism that ensures effective implementation of these policies at the grassroots level. This review-based study examines existing literature on government policies and their impact on rural development, with a special focus on the role of social work in enhancing policy effectiveness. The study synthesizes findings from academic journals, policy reports, and empirical studies published between 2001 and 2023. The review highlights that government policies have significantly improved rural livelihoods, though challenges such as corruption, lack of awareness, and implementation gaps persist. Social workers play a crucial role in bridging the gap between policy formulation and execution by facilitating awareness, participation, and community engagement. The study concludes that sustainable rural development requires integrated efforts between government institutions and social work professionals to ensure inclusive growth and socio-economic transformation.
