Abstract

Mirror repeats are special nucleotide patterns in which the sequence is symmetrical about a central point. This study is the first to look for mirror repeats in the human (Homo sapiens) GLUT-4 gene. Researchers used nucleotide BLAST (BLASTn) to extract mirror repeats from the full gene sequence, which is 6,540 base pairs long. They then used the Non-B DNA Motif Search Tool to find and analyze these motifs in the GLUT-4 (SLC2A4) gene. In total, 152 mirror repeats were found. Of these, 80.3% are perfect mirror repeats, while 19.7% are imperfect, indicating that most of these repeats are highly conserved and symmetrical. This research aims to clarify the role of mirror repeats in the GLUT-4 gene, a component of the human insulin signaling system.
