Abstract

Democratic governments are dedicated for the welfare and upliftment of people, who elect them and allocate the responsibility to introduce and implement welfare policies and to introduce the development initiatives for the socio-economic and cultural transformation of the people. Development initiatives, welfare policies and projects are tool to remove socio-economic disparities and inequalities and to promote the equal and equitable distribution of the benefits of the development and to provide the equal opportunities to all for their development. In the present study, analysis of the role of the government led development initiatives in the socio-economic transformation of rural areas of Kullu district has been performed, in order to find out the outcomes of these development initiatives and their effectiveness in attainment of the objectives of these initiatives. For this study primary data was collected through field work in order to understand the opinion of the people of the rural areas of Kullu district about the effectiveness of the development initiatives.
